Fancy that waffles have college names!

I love specialty shops. You pay quite a bit. And you know you're only going to get very "gouter"-only in terms of what you're having. But you still go against your senses, and push open that door to the shop and convince yourself, looking at the lushly-filled plates waitresses carry as they pass by that you're not guilty; merely in support of local economics.
Ok so you probably would have been able to guess that I have a specific shop in mind.
Cambridge Waffle House. Very simple establishment, clearly catering for the needs for waffles for the somewhat tiny somewhat senior-citizen-and-student-densed community. Of course one might argue, what "need for waffle"?
Ahah! This is the very thing that I meant to highlight. YOU ALWAYS have a need for something. You always need frshly squeezed not from concentrate orange juice. You always need fudge. You always need cinnamon buns. You always need doner kebab. Likewise, there is always a need for waffles.
I must admit there is nothing creative with the shop; usual dining atmosphere, 3-4 busy running waitreses, dim orange glow lights, food on plate, wooden for and spoon available at one corner, salt pepper and sugar for your coffee lalala. What is cunningly apt and took my attention was the names they gave their waffles.
Sweet and savoury waffles were randomly given the various names after the prestigious colleges in the institution; namely Newnham, Corpus Christi, Gonville and Caieus (which by the way is pronounced "keys"- one would think clever Cambridge people know how to spell- sheesh!) and King's, after the world-famous King's college, situated on the main street where the waffle house is situated at a corner off.
Given a hungry stomach (which, really, is rarely NOT hungry come to think of it) I thought the savoury waffles would be a good idea. Indeed it was. Gonville and Caieus' striking uniqueness was basil, mozarella cheese in the most fascinating, tangy form glazed with balsamic vinegar and olive oil (a combo that can never go wrong). On a waffle. You cannot imagine how this simple put-together can taste so amazing, mashed up together in your mouth with fresh tomatoes and olives on a plain waffle.

Other creative creations would be this delightful sauce of field mushrooms and herb and cream served hot on waffle with salad.

A great but nothing THAT outstanding flavour was the tuna and melted cheese on waffle. Very good but presence of Mayonaise put me off a little bit. Just a little bit ;)

Specialty shops just give you the notion that yep, there may be better use of my money, but you know you're at if not the best, a very good place for the specific type of food/ snack you want. And there's no better sense of accomplishment.

What remained ;)
