Dim for tea at dim t

So this restaurant I have been wanting to go in but never did coz it looked like it cost a lot-considering it's got a spot in London Bridge with a magnifico view of the Tower Bridge- finally had this promotion 50% off of food between 3-6 pm. My brilliant beautiful lawyer LSE friend Ain invited me together for her first ever dim sum (GAWKKK!! she missed out on LIFE, man... but oh well, better late than never).

I had my reservations. It was a proper restaurant, posh-ish (not too), turns out the menu (pre-50%) wasn't that expensive either... BUT it looked a bit too proper to be RAW, and AUTHENTIC. After all, there are loads of good Asian in London. But I am delighted to report the few dim sums we had to try were not dissapointing.

I trust these pics make my point clearer. I am not going to talk too much about them; they're the usual Mai's but with delightful transparent skin; ones I've seen before but not that often. The waitress was weirded out with my ordering ALL of the available seafood (mostly prawn) ones; she went "all prawns"? I was like "OH, YEAH"

Prawn and Chive

Prawn

Spicy Prawn

Spicy Cod

Prawn with Crushed Peanut and Coriander

Prawn and Scallop

We also had some main dish (well it WAS 50% off AND there were 3 of us... so...yeah)
I though the Green Curry Ain had was amazing. And I decided on this particular spiced cocunut dry kuey teow which had toasted coconut tossed on it and cooked with paprika/ bell pepper. I couldn't quite determine whether it was stir fried or cooked in a wet coconut milk/ santan broth. Overall 3/5 la.. And Dalila had Pad Thai which honestly wasn't the greatest one I've had. It tasted of chili and tomato sauce. Which is like... SO NOO in my books.

Skin is in!

Just to kick start again my dormant blog, which I did (when I do) have so much affection for- the amount of time I spend changing the concept and colors and whatnots with limited IT skills is crazy!- I am going to talk about Skin!!! and delay it even a bit more my 2007 Christmas story. I PROMISE I will not deprive you of the Christmas setting itself and the wonderful spread it was.

So my second trip to Bath was random; since Joey wanted to have Sushi in Bath and Nabila suggested we went along (I was in one of my weekend trips to Bristol). Turns out the actual thing he was looking for was Salmon Skin! I was excited because I could foresee if there was a need to go to Bath for Sushi, for Salmon Skin some more..., then I was ready to be enthralled. So we ordered 2 (or was it 3) bowlful of Salmon Skin, deep fried, and crunchy.

I soooo wasn't dissapointed. Especially since Joey requested Sushi King (Malaysia) to do this but they couldn't do it as thinly and as skilled as YenSushi does it.

Nabila had a platter of Sushi, nicely done (in front of our eyes) in the low-seated bar-like conveyor belt with sushi's parading in front of my eyes. Since I don't do Japanese much (only really nice ones) I still get my eyes locked whenever I see fresh tuna sashimi get cut and sliced to perfection.

Aidi and I were really hungry so that did NOT help us keep the budget down. So heck, we indulged.

Not having fresh seafood in London for ages (price and availability constraints) allowed me to really indulge in seafood that still had skin and exoskeletons attached in the food.

So, people, do look out for Salmon Skin when you're next at a Japanese Joint. Or well, you could head over to Bath. Or at the very least, pour over YenSushi's website at your study table over homemade white coffee and dried oats bar :(
